To Be Aware, to be prepared, and to be alert are the three aspects of living as a gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender person in our society particularly because we are perceived as different. The problem is how people are perceived; so the homophobic attacks anyone “he” (usually a male) perceives as “different.” “Straight” people also are attacked by these people.

Homophobia is Alive

Greater Risk of Violence

Today, with the Supreme Court’s landmark Decision of 2004 for the rights of all American, those of us who do not fit the stereotyped mold of the “nuclear family” or what some consider “normal” there is a greater risk of violence than just ordinary crime. Homophobic crimes have been on the rise for many years. We can expect those who believe in violence and who object to the recent Supreme Court decision to take it out on people they consider “queer” at any given opportunity.
